#MusicMonday - The Rainbow Girls from Santa Barbara, CA

#MusicMonday is dedicated to The Rainbow Girls, who are an eclectic folk trio hailing from the golden coastal countryside just north of California's Bay Area. Comprised of three unique musical talents - Vanessa May, Erin Chapin, and Caitlin Gowdey - they seamlessly combine soul-touching harmonies, varitextured instrumentals, and poignant lyrical content into an unusually beautiful sonic tapestry. Pairing their voices with acoustic and slide guitar, keys, upright bass, voice, harmonica, and a variety of more unexpected vocal techniques like beat-boxing and mouth trumpet, they create engaging and emotionally moving live performances.

Their music delves deeply into themes of the human experience: hopeful love, honest self-reflection, and pursuits of social justice, to name a few. Their latest album, "American Dream,” crystallizes these ideas in acoustic amber, encapsulating a beautiful new direction for their evolving sound.

Originally formed in Santa Barbara, CA in 2010, the Rainbow Girls have spread their musical wings both internationally and domestically, from busking on the streets of Europe to playing pubs and theaters in the UK, to house concerts, festivals, and shows in the US. Rainbow Girls have also gained recognition on NPR's Tiny Desk concert series and KQED's "The California Report." They've played alongside the likes of Hot Buttered Rum, The Brothers Comatose, ALO, and John Craigie. [Intro c/o Facebook]

#MusicMonday - T Sisters from Oakland, CA

#MusicMonday this month is dedicated to the T Sisters, who are a vocally driven contemporary folk band hailing from Oakland, California. The three sisters’ inventive songwriting is supported by their own acoustic instrumentation as well as by upright bassist Steve Height and mandolinist/guitar player Andrew Allen Fahlander. When performing their lively set of originals and covers—occasionally in arresting a cappella–they captivate audiences with close harmonies, creative arrangements, and sassy performance style. Touching on elements of folk, Americana, gospel, R&B, bluegrass and soul, the T Sisters weave evocative stories with a sound that is at once modern and timeless. [Intro c/o Facebook]

FULL BIO from their website:
The T Sisters, born and raised in California and now based in the creative hub of Oakland, embody harmony. It’s in their blood, bones, and history. Erika, Rachel and Chloe have been singing and writing music together since childhood, and the lifetime of practice shows.

The three sisters’ inventive songwriting is supported by their own acoustic instrumentation as well as upright bass (Steve Height), mandolin/guitar (Andrew Allen Fahlander), and drums (Marlon Aldana). Their sound represents a continuum of music, from traditional to pop influences, moments of breathtaking a cappella to swells of energetic indie Americana.

Following their 2014 debut album Kindred Lines (produced by folk/bluegrass legend Laurie Lewis), the T Sisters released their self-titled full-length album in October of 2016. T Sisters has already received extensive airplay leading to a top position in the Roots Music Reports and continues to climb in the Americana Charts.
