Oakland, CA -- Wednesday, January 24, 2018 – At the height of awareness around the #metoo movement and Women’s Marches just occurring across the nation, the T Sisters and Megan Slankard & The Wreckage co-headline an incredible evening of female-fronted music in honor of International Women’s Day at the Great American Music Hall (San Francisco, CA) on Friday, March 9, 2018. Special guest SF-based all-female choir Conspiracy of Venus also performs on the show. The T Sisters are available for interviews upon request.
A global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, International Women’s Day is a call to action for accelerating gender parity. On International Women’s Day 2018, rich and diverse local events will connect women from all around the world with political rallies, business conferences, and music events to produce a web of consciousness ensuring the future for women is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.
“For this year’s International Women’s Day, we wanted to craft a show celebrating the music of bands led by women, including ourselves, Megan Slankard, and of course some surprise special guests,” say the T Sisters. “The show commemorates sisterhood in the face of the struggles women continue to face today. As female artists at this pivotal point in history, we find it incredibly important to cultivate connection over rivalry and solidarity over competition.”
Megan Slankard comments, "It's empowering to be part of a show with such beautiful, fierce, and exceptionally talented women such as the T Sisters. I can't think of a better way to celebrate International Women's Day than being with a room full of strong, wonderful women (and men)—on stage and off—celebrating positive energy, love, and good music together."
Leading up to their latest headlining San Francisco concert, the T Sisters have recently performed their awe-inspiring harmonies in full effect at The Fillmore (“Summer of Love” celebration with Jefferson Starship and Quicksilver Messenger Service), Paramount Theatre (with Oakland Symphony and W. Kamau Bell), SF Jazz, and The Freight & Salvage. The T Sisters were also recently a featured guest to sing the national anthem at AT&T Park for the SF Giants (July 2017); they toured with Amos Lee and The Wood Brothers in 2016/2017; and sang on stage at Floydfest 2017 with Keller Williams and The Wood Brothers. T Sisters released their latest self-titled studio album in October 2016 and have since released the EP entitled Live at Tiny Telephone in October 2017 (videos from the recording session can be viewed at https://tsisters.com/video-listing).
The T Sisters are making a name for themselves as one of the West Coast’s foremost indie-Americana acts poised to break out nationally in 2018. While inspired by the American folk tradition, the T Sisters’ music also embodies a fresh and contemporary sound with inflections of pop, R&B/soul and country. The T Sisters write music that casts a portrait of life experiences replete with love, struggle, and self-discovery, and is unified by a landscape of close harmonies that only sisters can create. At the Great American Music Hall show, the T Sisters will perform with their full band featuring Steve Height (acoustic bass), Andrew Allen Fahlander (mandolin, guitar), Marlon Aldana (drums), and Kevin Wong (keyboard).
Conspiracy of Venus is a 30-woman vocal ensemble based in San Francisco that explores the creative frontiers of music under the artistic direction of Joyce Todd McBride. The choir interprets Joyce’s daring and inventive arrangements of beloved songs, ranging from popular classics (Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi” and David Bowie’s “Life On Mars”) to edgy contemporary pieces (Bjork’s “Possibly Maybe”), as well as original compositions by Joyce, with dazzling technical verve and tons of personality.
